There is hardly any other school of modern art that has excited and inspired people's creativity as vigorously as "Futurism" has. It is a school that started stirring at the beginning of the 20th century and gave a fresh impetus to various art forms since then. Moreover, Futurism pepped up the discussion on arts and anticipated with its exess and brutality the decisive discussions of the last century. The following schools, such as DADA, Surrealism, Fluxus and Avantgarde, drew on Futurism and helped revive certain elements of the movement. Today, approximately a hundred years later, unreserved praise towards technology, machines and even war is putting us on our guard in a different way. Isn't the hurrah on the world of global media playing the same tune? What began with the "Bildersturm" towards bourgeoise comforts is still (or once again) capable of sharpening our perception of what the Canadian artist Laura Kikauka, who now lives in Germany, called "irritainment".
futuressencexxx focuses on theatre pieces by Giacomo Balla, Francesco Cangiullo, Bruno Corra, Mario Dessy, Giuliamo Janelli, F.T. Marinetto, and others which rebelliously brought themselves to the center of attention during the Futurist movement in the first half of the 20th century. The works will be interpreted from a 100 years younger contemporary point of view. Gerhard Staebler and Kunsu Shim, both from Germany, provide the musical accents for these interpretating "executions" and much more. Their music, which invites us to hear, see, touch and smell, was created for the most part at the Center of Art and Media Technology (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany. The performers are actors and musicians, that will pull the audience into the whirlpool of this play.
The eight channel music for futuressencexxx was created by Gerhard Staebler together with Christian Venghaus, sound design, at the ZKM, Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe. In the course of the evening additional compositions by Kunsu Shim (TRACES) and Gerhard Staebler (AugenTanz, MundStuecke) will be performed.
