Cassandra for voice, percussion, and tape – commissioned by the Saarländische Staatstheater Saarbrücken (Germany) – was created at the Center for Art and Media Technology Karlsruhe in 1996 for a dance theater by the German choreographer Birgit Scherzer and the librettist Matthias Kaiser. It is based upon the ancient mythological Greek figure Cassandra. The work refers to various works by Staebler, such as the string quartet ...strike the ear... and the vocal composition drueber... (beyond) for eight screamers, violoncello, synthesizer and tape as compositions that discuss fields of the human psyche and try to reach spheres that are beyond emotional borders.
